Music is expression of harmony in sound. Love is the expression of
harmony in life
- Stephen Gaskin -
I recently attended a business women’s morning tea. The topic was work life balance. The room was full of ladies wanting to understand how to do this. Wanting to to hear the magic formula.
The room was eager for information on work life balance.
A few ladies got up and shared their experience about finding this balance in their life. They talked about how they split the 24hr pie into different segments and how this allowed them to achieve their work/life balance. As I listened to the ladies sharing their experiences, I found myself asking three questions:-
Is work a part of life?
Is there a need for such a demarcation?
Is there another way of looking at this?
The word ‘harmony’ came to me.
As someone who has been surrounded by music all my life, particularly vocal music, it rang a different bell. It had a different sound for me.
They say different things to me. There is something magical about the word harmony and there is something magical about things being in harmony. Have you ever wondered why music sounds so nice when played in tune? It’s more than simply sounding nice to listen to.
It’s about the resonance that occurs.
From a musical perspective, when a note is produced in tune, the harmonics associated with that note resonate, giving depth and richness to the original note being produced. They are part of the original note’s harmonic series.
When I think of things being in harmony, I think of ‘the whole is greater than the sum of the parts’. A saying attributed to the Greek philosopher Aristotle, I feel it describes the powerful concept of other forces contributing to what you are doing reminding you that you are not alone.
I believe when you are in harmony
the Universe resonates with you in that moment.
It’s like there is an added dimension working cooperatively with you. There’s an added something that you can’t touch, but you can feel!
If one is harmonious, one is in the flow, aren’t they? Can the same be said about being balanced?
