The Powerful Magic I Found Going with the Flow

Have you ever thought of a song only to turn the radio on and hear it playing? Maybe you've thought of someone and suddenly your phone rings, and it's them? Is this type of happening a coincidence? A fluke? Maybe it's just lucky? No matter how you describe it, it doesn't take away from the fact that you experienced that little bit of magic! I experienced a beautiful and very powerful example of 'magic' when I decided to go with the flow on new year's eve.

With a new year approaching I had been giving thought to how I wanted it to flow for me. Every time I thought about it I heard the words 'kiss it (keep it simple sweetheart), be like water and go with the flow'. Little did I know the 'magic' that was about to happen.

I had plans to spend new year's eve with a small margherita pizza, a nice glass of shiraz and a movie. I thought I was going to do it in the comfort of my home, however during the afternoon I had a vision of myself watching a movie under the stars, amongst the giant pine trees at Somerville Auditorium. I could treat myself and get a pizza there. So that's what I did.

Somerville auditorium was an idea conceived by William Somerville, a foundation member of the Senate of The University of Western Australia. In 1927 he planted Norfolk pines in open space down by The Swan river to create a 'cathedral'. It's such a peaceful place, and a stunning environment to watch movies on the big screen.

Sitting on a bench, in the exquisite grounds of The University of Western Australia, waiting for the gates of Sommerville to open for the movie that night, a gentleman came and sat down next to me. There were a few moments of silence before I introduced myself and started chatting. His wife had gone home to get the quinoa salad that had been left in the fridge. He wasn't going to eat it. He had his chicken and salad and didn't get why his wife ate 'that stuff'. On her return, he introduced his wife to me, she smiled and invited me to picnic with them and their friends whilst we all waited for the movie to start. I gratefully accepted.

Whilst chatting with one of their friends I happened to mention my dad had taught at a little school in Doodarding back in the late 50s - early 60s. He let out an incredulous 'what?'. He was absolutely stunned. Through his excitement he went on to say that about 60yrs ago, as an 18yr old, he was out for a drive with his uncle, and had happened to stop and take a photograph of that school. Now it was my turn to be incredulous! That was around the time dad was teaching at the school.

What was more amazing was that he had found the photo about 6 weeks earlier whilst going through some of his old photos. He was so chuffed to be able to send the photo through to me ... and I was so excited to receive it. I've always had an interest in family history, and didn't have a photo of the school at Doodarding. Mum used to tell me some amazing stories of life at Doodarding. I now have one ... and it's in colour!

I have this photo because I went with the flow. In following my intuition I met a man, who knew a man who took a photo of the little one room school my dad taught in about 60yrs ago.
